Dry bottom layers first, directing the hair up (to speed drying and increase volume).

• Move to the sides, aiming hot air towards hair growth (at the roots).

• For top layer of hair, hold individual sections straight up to dry (to increase volume).

• When hair is almost dry, finger-comb through hair, gently pulling top front section up.

• Twist front of hair forward into small sections and apply low heat while twisted.

• Let each section fall to untwist naturally.

• Curl top front layer of hair around the face and clip to hold in place.

• Attach a nozzle to a hairdryer, holding it in one hand with a round brush in the other.

• Curl the ends under and dry small sections of hair at a time letting the nozzle follow the brush, holding the hair taunt.

• Remove the front clip, brush this section of hair back and up and apply low heat to smoothen hair.

• Apply styling gel lightly to hair ends and use hands to shape, separating and lifting strands to create volume.

• Add styling gel or wax to the ends and shape with hands, separating strands for volume and hold.

• Hold head slightly downwards and shake head forward gently.

• Cover hair with a light coating of hairspray.

Voila – you have achieved a professional, salon-look blow dry!

We’ll have a look at other blow drying techniques in the future.

How To Give Yourself A Facial At Home

<span style="font-size: 10pt; It absorbs the oil or moisture in the make-up and creates a dry, matt surface on.

Powders should be neutral and should not add colour to your make-up.

Choosing the right powder:

A good-quality powder will add a glow and flatter the face by reflecting the light.

Choose a shade to compliment the tone of your skin, whether you have a pale or a dark skin.

There are two types of powder; Loose Powder and Pressed Powder.

Loose powder:

· Apply powder only after you have completed the application of foundation
and concealer.

· Take a clean tissue, wipe your brush on it and then use it to remove
excess powder from your face.

· Dip your powder brush into the powder. Shake off the excess powder.

· Brush it on face in the upward direction.

Pressed powder:

· Apply pressed powder on your face using sponge.

· Dab a small amount of powder on a cosmetic puff and apply it to shiny
areas or places when your makeup has become thin.

· Remove extra powder from your face.

Confirmation Code: GNFMVFB9317810

Correct With Camouflage

Camouflage Cover Make-up provides a longwearing, super coverage for blemishes including birthmarks, acne, pimples and even broken and thread veins, resulting in a smooth looking skin.

Choosing the right Camouflage Cover:

The ideal camouflage should match your skin tone and have a yellow base. Pull the hair out quickly in the direction of the hair growth. Do not rush – go slow!

To keep the natural arch only the hair underneath the eyebrows must be plucked, keeping roughly the same thickness, tapering slightly at the outer tip..

To fill in the gaps in the eyebrow shape, use the color pencil that is the closest to your eyebrow color or a shade lighter than that. Use short feathered strokes from the inside of the brow outwards. Soften with your fingertip.

Do not be afraid to pluck above your brow. To achieve a smooth clean look you need to pluck both the top and bottom of the brow, but remember when shaping your eyebrows, less is more.

Stop and have a look at your brow as you go along to eliminate over-plucking.

Apply an ice cube after shaping your eyebrows to reduce swelling and redness or apply Aloe Vera gel.

Skincare Routine for Teens

Problem skin is a nightmare in any teenager’s life, but with the correct skincare routine the outbreaks caused by fluctuating hormones can be controlled.

A good diet and plenty of rest are important as your skin reflects your lifestyle and what you eat.

Skin types:

Overall the skin in this age group is still young, firm and plump. The skin is still young enough to heal itself if damaged by scarring and pigmentation. Hormonal changes can cause havoc causing outbreaks of blackheads, pimples or even acne.

Your Skincare Routine

1. It is very important to establish a good skincare routine early in life as this will help to maintain a healthy skin throughout later years.

2. Establish a dedicated morning and evening cleansing routine.

3. Choose mild formulations that clean and unclog pores without leaving the skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. Foaming or gel cleansers work very well, cleaning without leaving residue on the skin's surface.

4. Apply an alcohol-free toner to the clean skin to remove any remaining impurities and finish with a light, oil-free moisturizer.

5. If you have oily skin, harsh products can do more harm than good. It will only dry out the surface of the skin, causing it to react by producing more oil (sebum), resulting in blackheads and breakouts.

6. Take care to apply acne treatments directly onto the blemish and not the surrounding skin.

7. Apply and reapply sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher whenever you go outdoors.

Remember, sun damage will only show in later years and then it is to late for tears!

Start looking after your youthful skin with a good skincare routine and you will reap the benefits for years and years to come.

How to blow dry your hair

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5174279342686996354" style="FLOAT: left; Acne can also appear with hormonal changes – thus the high percentage of teenage sufferers.

The excessive sebum hardens in the skin pores, resulting in blackheads, white heads and other blemishes. A pimple is formed when skin tissue around the blocked pores is inflamed and acne is formed if bacteria start to grow on the skin around the pimple.

If acne is left untreated it will spread to other skin areas and if not treated correctly will lead to unsightly skin scarring. Acne scarring is difficult to treat and we’ll take a look at different treatment options in a later posting.

The best way to treat acne is the prevention of acne forming!

Step-by-step routine to prevent acne forming:

1. Make sure that you get lots of fresh air and moderate sunshine but avoid exposure to harsh sun. Sunshine is essential for the formation of vitamin D to help heal the skin. Use sun block creams and gels which help to prevent loss of moisture.

2. Avoid unnecessary stress or learn to deal with it as stress can play a major roll in forming excess sebum and hormones.

3. Drink plenty of water – at least 8 glasses a day. Water helps with the shedding of dead skin, which help prevent blocking of the pores.

4. Adjust your diet. Avoid excessive salt and fried food. Eat less red meat and dairy products and stock up on fresh fruits, vegies, whole grains and pulses. Cut down, or completely eliminate (for a while at least), sugar, caffeine and refined carbs – go for whole food.

5. Keep your skin squeaky clean. It is important to deep cleanse and moisturize the skin every night at bedtime. Avoid over-cleaning or excessive scrubbing as this will have a overly drying effect resulting in extra sebum forming.

6. Remove black heads as they form to prevent them from developing into pimples. You can do this at home or by a professional, but it has to be done at an early stage - do not leave to them inflamed.

Following the above steps will go a long way in preventing acne forming, but as other factors play a role it is not conclusive. Look in further posts for treatments of acne.

A Perfect Fake Tan

Would you like a gorgeous, just arrived-from-the-beach look?

The latest self tanning lotions are easy to use and provide you with a natural looking tan without the risk of excessive sun exposure.

Just follow the easy steps for a great looking sunless tan:

The basis – a smooth skin:

Thorough preparation is essential. You need a really smooth skin for a great looking tan – remove any unwanted hair and rough skin.

Removing hair:

1. Wax or shave before applying self tanning lotion as it will remove the product if done afterwards.

Exfoliate:

1. Use a loofah, exfoliating gloves of a body exfoliating brush to lightly brush your dry skin before getting into the shower. Start at your feet and work your way up.

2. Apply an exfoliating product to the exfoliating tool of your choice. Use a facecloth for mild exfoliation.

3. Pay extra attention to dry areas such as knees, elbows, ankles, hands and feet, by rubbing with a pumice stone.

4. Wet your entire body and start scrubbing, using gentle, circular motions until skin feels smooth and tingly.

5. Rinse thoroughly and pat yourself dry.

Moisturize:

1. Keep soap and water and soap to give your hands a quick rinse at intervals to avoid stained hands!

2. Tie up your hair and wait a few minutes for your skin to dry naturally.

3. Moisturize very dry areas, such as feet, hands, knees and elbows, wiping off any excess moisturizer. Dry areas will absorb more self tanning lotion, resulting in unsightly dark areas.

Applying Self Tanning lotion:

1. The best way to start your fake tan is to mix the self tan lotion for the first application with body lotion.

2. Start applying the self tanning lotion by pouring of squeezing small quantities onto your hands, rubbing it in with circular movements. Apply only as much as the skin absorbs, as an excess will result in streaking.

3. Starting with your legs, blend in the self tanning lotion in light circles. Do not apply lotion directly to dry areas such as heels, knees and elbows, rather blend in a light layer from an adjoining area that is already covered with self tanning lotion.

4. Next move onto your hips and butt continue applying the lotion in circular movements. Remember to take breaks to quickly wash and moisturize your hands!

5. Continue applying the self tanning lotion on your back, tummy, sides and chest. Ask for help from your partner or a friend at this stage, as it may be difficult to reach parts of your back. You can also apply lotion to your arm pits, if you wish.

6. Work your way out to your shoulders making sure you cover your neck and the top of your back. Moving to your arms remember to treat your hands and elbows the same way as your feet and knees, blending in from adjoining areas.

7. Apply a specially formulated self tanning lotion to your face. Apply in circular movement while blending in with a make-up sponge. Continue until whole face is covered, (including the ears and behind the ears) avoiding the area around the eyes and blend in very well at the hair line.

8. Finally wash your hands thoroughly and apply a very light coating on the back of your hands. Make sure that the palms of your hands are completely clean.

9. Stay undressed for at least 30 minutes to give your skin time to absorb the self tanning lotion. Wear a loose fitting garment for at least another 2 hours to avoid blotches, streaks and staining of clothes.

10. Follow the above steps very carefully and you will have a beautiful, golden tan after 4 or 5 hours.

Caring for your tan:

1. Maintain your tan by applying self tanning lotion at least twice a week and after an exfoliation.
2. Avoid hair removal for at least 24 hours after application and keep your skin moisturized.
3. A light skin might need extra applications over 2 or 3 following days.

Must Do Tips:

1. You will need at least 2 to 3 hours to applying a self tanning product and to allow for the self tanning lotion to be completely absorbed.

2. Wash and moisturize hands regularly throughout application.

3. Remember to not apply lotion directly to dry areas such as heels, knees and elbows, blending in a light layer from an adjoining area that is already covered with self tanning lotion.

4. Avoid excess self tanning lotion.

5. Always blend in well for a natural look without streaks.

6. Do not apply to the soles of your feet or the palms of your hand.

7. Streaks and dark patches can be lightened by rubbing it with half a lemon
or scrub the area with a microdermabrasion cream.

How to give yourself a Day Spa Pedicure

Give tired feet special treatment with a home pedicure. Soak, buff, and polish for a new look before facing the world in sandals.

There is nothing like a little attention to one's feet after a long hard day. A pedicure is just the treatment working feet deserve. If you do not feel that you can afford to have a professional pedicure in a nail salon, treat yourself to one at home.

Booking a pedicure at a day spa can be sheer indulgence, but alternatively you can treat your tired footsies to a little tender, loving care in the comfort of your own home.

The Preparation:

· Start off by creating a luxurious, spa-like feeling.

· Light a few scented candles (or burn a bit of incense) and put on your favourite, soothing music.
· Fill a foot bath or a basin with warm water.

· Add a tablespoon either of; your favourite bath salts, sea salt, Epson salt or baking soda to soften up hard or dry skin.

· To this you may add a teaspoon of bath oil or olive oil to moisturize.

· Alternatively you can use the commercial foot soaking tablets or liquids available.

The Pedicure:

· Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes in the warm water.

· Gently massage an exfoliating body scrub into the soles of your feet.

· Wait for the scrub to be partly absorbed then gently scrub with a pumice stone or skin file to remove dead skin and calluses.

· Rinse your feet in cool water and pat dry.

· Remove nail polish from your toenails with cotton wool soaked in nail polish remover.

· Clean under your nails.

· Use your nail clippers to cut your nails straight across (to prevent ingrown nails) and file to remove any rough edges.

· Apply some cuticle cream to a tipped orange stick and massage into cuticle in circular movements.

· Scrub your feet and nails with a nailbrush and soak for a few more minutes.

· Use the tipped cuticle stick to apply cuticle remover to the cuticles.

· Gently lift the cuticles with a wet cuticle knife.

· Re-soak again and then dry thoroughly paying attention to the space between your toes.

· Massage a moisturizer, foot lotion or Vaseline all over your foot and ankle area up to your calves. Don’t rush – it can be very relaxing!

· Wrap your feet in plastic bags and relax for at least 10 to 15 minutes.

Painting Your Toenails:

1. Make sure that your toenails are clean of any cream or moisturizer.

2. Apply nail polish as for fingernails and stroke from cuticle to tip in three strokes.

3. Start with a thin base coat and leave to dry thoroughly.

4. Follow with one or two coats of nail polish, allowing ample time between coats for drying.

5. Finish with a clear topcoat and repeat every other day to protect the nail polish and refresh the shine.

You will now be wonderfully relaxed as well as having smooth, beautiful feet to display in your sexiest summer sandals!

A Bright White Smile - Teeth Whitening

A bright, white smile gives your self image a boost and gives you extra self confidence in your day-to-day life.

The most poplar and least invasive cosmetic dental procedure is probably teeth whitening. Even old stains from red wine, coffee, tea and smoking can be treated with very satisfactory results.

You can either do your own bleaching at home or it can be done professionally by your dentist with better results.

Professional bleaching:

· This procedure is easy and takes about 1 – 2 hours with immediate results.

· Firstly a gel is applied to the lips and gums for protection.

· The teeth are then completely covered with a bleaching gel.

· A high intensity light or laser is used to activate the bleaching gel.

· There may be a bit of discomfort but no pain.

· It may be necessary to repeat the process to reach the required level of whiteness.

· You may experience some sensitivity to heat or cold, but this lasts only a few days.

At Home Whitening:

· Bleaching at home is usually done after professional whitening.

· The dentist will take an impression of your teeth for custom made rubber trays.

· After making sure of a perfect fit your dentist will supply you with a solution of hydrogen or other bleaching agent.

· A small quantity of the bleach is poured into the trays which you then fit over the teeth.

· You have to wear the trays with bleach overnight until you reach the desired whiteness.

· If you do the at home bleaching instead of professional whitening it may take several weeks to get the results you want.

· As with professional whitening you may experience some sensitivity to heat or cold, but this lasts only a few days.

After Care:

As coffee, tea, red wine and smoking where responsible for the staining in the first place care should be taken to cut down on consumption.

Keep your home-whitening kit handy for once-a-week bleaching.

With care your new bright, white smile will last you for many years to come!

How to Apply Natural Looking Blusher

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166031965173109090" style="FLOAT: left; Remove all traces of old nail polish with a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover. Acetone remover works quickly and well for especially dark shades, but tends to dry out the nail and cuticle.

2. Shape your nails by clipping and filing to the desired shape. File only to one direction in long sweeping strokes. Never use metal files!

3. Wash hands thoroughly to remove any tracers of nail polish remover or hand cream.

4. Soak hand for a few minutes in warm water and dry with a paper towel, making sure that no paper particles are left on the nails.

5. Push back cuticles with an orange stick and use the pointed end to clean out any dirt remaining under your nails.

Applying the Base Coat:

· Start by applying a thin base coat in three strokes from the cuticles to the tips and leave to dry completely.

Applying the White Tips:

1. Keep your hand flat on a solid area to help keep your hand steady.

2. For a square look, paint a straight line across the tips and for a rounded look, follow the curve of the nail. Paint in from each side to the centre for a pointed look.

3. If using French manicure guide strips, peel of and apply it below the tips of all the nails following the natural curve - the longer the nail, the longer the white tip should be or you can have long nails with little white or shorter nails with a lot of white.

4. Press down firmly and smooth out any bubbles.

5. Paint on the white nail polish in strokes starting from the top of the guide to the tip of the nail.

Quickly remove any white polish on the nail below the guide. Allow to dry for 5 minutes of more.

6. A second coat of the white polish might be needed.

Painting on the Neutral (pinkish) Coat:

1. Peel of the guide once the tips are completely dry. Any adhesive remaining can be removed by carefully rubbing with a cotton bud soaked with nail polish remover.

2. You can now paint a translucent neutral (shell-pink) nail polish over the entire nail. This seals the whitened tip and enhances the look.

3. Allow 10 minutes drying time. A second coat may be applied for added shine and protection.

The Essential Top Coat:

1. A clear top coat is applied to seal your nail polish, protecting it against chipping and extending its lifespan.

2. Paint on a clear top coat every second day for a long lasting manicure.

Tips:

· Keep your hand steady and supported while painting.

· After painting your nails, avoid doing things that may smudge them while they dry.

· Use guide strips, they make the French Manicure process so much easier. The guide strip will allow you to paint an even white tip with ease and confidence.

· Paint only one coat of neutral color if you find a second coat to opaque.

It may seem a little awkward the beginning, but give yourself time to practice and you will find how easy it actually is to give yourself a professional French manicure!

Reduce Wrinkles with Microderm

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163982199088523666" style="FLOAT: left; What Is Microdermabrasion?

· Microdermabrasion is effective in reducing fine lines, "crow's feet," age spots and acne scars.

· It stimulates the production of skin cells and collagen.

· It has proven to be a very popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure; see current American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) statistics.

Technique:

· The hand piece emits crystals onto the surface of the skin, resulting in a gentle abrasion or "polishing" process.

· Each treatment takes from 30 minutes to an hour.

· The number of treatments recommended for maximal results can range between 5 and 12, spaced from 2 to 3 weeks apart.

· Maintenance of results requires periodic repeat treatments after the initial regimen is completed.

· Microdermabrasion may be combined with a light chemical peel to increase the effect.

Benefits:

· Virtually no side effects.

· Gives the skin an overall fresh, healthy-looking glow.

· Nonsurgical, safe, effective "lunch hour" procedure.

· Effective on all skin colors and types.

· No anesthetic required.

· Excellent for skin sensitive to chemical procedures.

· Normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Other Considerations:

· Requires multiple sessions and maintenance treatments.

· Patients with good skin tone will show best results.

· An individualized skin care program may be recommended to maximize results.

Excerpted from the ASPS/ASAPS Patient Education Brochures© ASPS/ASAPS 2008

What is a Chemical Skin Peel?

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163975378680457602" style="FLOAT: left; What Is A Chemical Skin Peel?

· Skin peeling involves an application of a chemical solution to sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented, and finely wrinkled facial areas.

· The procedure is meant to diminish imperfections by peeling away the skin's top layers.

· It has proven to be a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure; see current American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) statistics.

· Chemical peels vary according to their specific ingredients and their strength.

· Depth of peeling action may also depend on factors such as how long solutions remain on the skin and whether they are lightly applied, or more heavily or vigorously applied.

Technique:

· The surgeon will select the best chemical or chemical mix for the individual patient.

· A solution is applied using a sponge, cotton pad, cotton swab or brush to the areas to be treated (or the entire face, avoiding the eyes, brows and lips).

· Generally, the most superficial peels are those using alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), such as glycolic, lactic or fruit acid.

· Various concentrations of an AHA may be applied weekly or at longer intervals to obtain the best result.

· A trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel is stronger, and has a greater depth of peel compared to AHA's.

Benefits:

AHA:

· No anesthesia or sedation is needed, and the patient will feel only a mild tingling or stinging sensation when the solution is applied.

· Sometimes a single treatment will give skin a healthier, radiant look.

· No downtime - patient can immediately resume normal activities.

· Can be mixed with a facial cream or wash in milder concentrations as part of a daily skin-care regimen.

· Short, safe procedure.

· No covering or after-peel ointment is necessary.

TCA:

· TCA is especially effective in treating darker-skinned patients.

· Can possibly be used to achieve some effects of a deep peel, depending on the concentration and manner of application.

· Generally shorter recovery time than with a deep (phenol) peel.

· Short, safe procedure.

· No covering or after-peel ointment is necessary.

Other Considerations:

AHA:

· May require multiple treatments.

· Sun block is strongly recommended, especially with TCA treatment. Skin pores may appear larger, and the skin may not tan evenly following a chemical peel.

· Some facial skin disorders do not respond to chemical peeling.

TCA:

· May require pretreatment with AHA or Retin-A creams.

· Repeat treatment may be required.

· Deeper TCA peel may result in 2-3 days of restricted activity.

· Sun block is strongly recommended, especially with TCA treatment. Skin pores may appear larger, and the skin may not tan evenly following a chemical peel.

· Some facial skin disorders do not respond to chemical peeling.

Excerpted from the ASPS/ASAPS Patient Education Brochures© ASPS/ASAPS 2008

A New Skin with Laser Resurfacing

What is Laser resurfacing?

· It is one of the most common treatments for reducing facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, such as blemishes or acne scars.

· Short, concentrated pulsating beams of light are directed at the skin.

· The skin is removed very precisely by the laser, layer by layer.

· It is also called laser peel, wrinkle laser, lasabrasion, laser vaporization etc.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

· As wrinkles and scars are lower than the skin surface they are visible by light casting shadows in them.

· If CO2, Erbium, and N-Lite lasers are used, collagen production will be stimulated resulting in more shallow wrinkles.

· The CO2 and Erbium lasers reduce the wrinkles and skin irregularities by vaporizing the surrounding skin.

· The skin will be burned in the process though the amount of heat absorbed by the skin will be limited.

· Oozing and ‘weeping’ will be normal for a few days.

· The N-Lite laser does not actually vaporize the skin so there is no burn and oozing. It works by stimulating collagen production.

· Keep in mind that deeper wrinkles and scars may need more that one treatment.

· Scarring, although unusual, may occur in laser-treated areas.

· Increased pigmentation or decreased skin pigmentation may result in the laser-treated areas. Treat with bleaching cream to fade the pigment.

· Small white bumps may appear but can be gently removed with a washcloth.

· Resurfacing is usually not done on very dark skins and active acne.

Which treatment is right for you?

CO2 Laser:

1. Improve deep wrinkles up to 80%.

2. Completely removes fine wrinkles.

3. Improve acne scarring up to 30%.

4. Can be done on an outpatient basis - home same day, but an overnight stay is recommended.

5. Significant discomfort with treatment – general anesthesia required.

6. Prescription pain medication to be use for a few days.

7. Sterile dressings will be applied.

8. Recovery time (swelling, oozing and ‘weeping’) 10 to 21 days.

9. Swelling lasts 3 days to 3 weeks.

10. Your skin will be red for 1 to 4 months – use a green based foundation (the longer your face stays red, the better the results will be!).

11. Back to work in 7 to 10 days (covered with concealing make-up).

Erbium Laser:

1. Improve deep wrinkles up to 60%.

2. Completely removes fine wrinkles.

3. Improve acne scarring up to 25%.

4. Done on an outpatient basis (home same day).

5. Moderate discomfort with treatment – local anesthesia and sedative medications.

6. Some cases may need a few day’s prescription pain medication.

7. Sterile dressings will be applied.

8. Recovery time (swelling, oozing and ‘weeping’) 4 to 7 days.

9. Swelling lasts 3 days to 3 weeks.

10. Your skin will be red for 1 to 4 weeks – use a green based foundation (the longer your face stays red, the better the results will be!).

11. Back to work in 7 to 1 days (covered with concealing make-up).

N-Lite Laser:

1. Improve deep wrinkles 10% to 40%.

2. Removes fine wrinkles up to 50%.

3. Improve acne scarring up to 25%.

4. No discomfort with treatment.

5. No recovery time - no swelling, red skin, oozing and ‘weeping’.

6. Improvement will be seen over 3 months and more than one treatment may be needed.

7. Back to work immediately.

8. The cost of this laser treatment is about half the cost of the more invasive types.

9. The N-Lite is considered less predictable than its counterparts (with much less skin improvement) and has lost much of its one-time popularity.

Spot treatment or full-face?

· You may opt for a partial-face treatment of wrinkles around the eyes, mouth or forehead only or a full-face laser resurfacing up to the chin-line.

· A partial-face laser resurfacing may take about 30-45 minutes and the full-face treatment between 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

Preparing Your Skin For CO2 or Erbium Laser Resurfacing

· No pre-treatment needed for the N-Lite laser.

· Your plastic surgeon will prescribe bleaching agents, glycolic acid and Retin-A to use daily for at least 6 weeks before your procedure.

· The use of these products will optimize results, healing time, reduce discoloration and speed recovery.

Laser Resurfacing Recovery and After-Care

· The sterile dressings will be remove after 1 to 3 days.

· Clean the skin gently with cool, sterile water or a vinegar solution – your surgeon will advice you.

· Apply an prescribed ointment or Vaseline over the treated area – this is to prevent a crust from forming.

· Sleep on an extra pillow at night to help reduce the swelling after laser resurfacing. Ice pack application is also helpful in the first 24-48 hours.

· Healing will be in 7 to 21 days.

· After your skin has healed from the laser, you should use above products while your skin is still red.

· You may then resume your usual skin care routine.

· Protect you skin from the sun for at least 6 months with a sun-screen of SPF 15 or higher.

· Wait at least months between laser treatments.

· Your beautiful new skin will be visible after about 6 months.

Botox Your Wrinkles!

What is BOTOX®?

Botox® (Botulinum toxin) is a complex protein that paralysis the muscle.
Minute quantities are injected into selected muscles for therapeutic or cosmetic treatments.

Is BOTOX® Safe?

Botox® has been used for some years in the medical field and is found a safe and effective treatment with minor occurrence of side effects.

Do not us when pregnant or breastfeeding.

Side effects include:

Tenderness or bruising where injected. Bruising, especially around the crows’ feet.

Headaches, that may last for a day or two.

Muscle weakness or nerve damage.

Antibodies can be produced and if this happens the toxin becomes ineffective.

A diffusion of toxin from a upper eyelid injection may cause droopy eye, dry eye and photosensitivity.

These side effects are generally not serious, are rarely experienced and in most cases transient.

How Will BOTOX® Be Applied?

The treatment will be carried out on a outpatient basis and no anesthesia will be needed – immediate recovery.

A very fine needle is used to inject a very diluted, minute dose of the toxin into the targeted muscle by a qualified therapist or doctor.

The areas that are usually treated are wrinkles between the eyebrows, forehead lines and crows feet.

Keep in mind that it is used to rejuvenate dynamic, muscle wrinkles and will not work for sun damage and ageing.

As Botox® reduce your ability to use the muscles that cause the wrinkles, the areas injected will be smoothed out.

Results will be seen after 3 to 5 days after the treatment and will last between 3 and 4 months.

It is safe to use again as the effects of the toxin return as before.

How To Apply Concealer

Concealers are an important part of your make up as they camouflage and hide imperfections, making your skin appear smooth and flawless.

Don’t use heavy foundation for covering blemishes – use a appropriate concealer which will be easier and faster to use with much better results.

Concealers usually come in liquids, creams and stick forms.

Choosing

1. Concealers are available in a variety of textures and shades, each designed for a particular skin type.

2. Choose a colour one or two shades lighter than your skin tone or a shade that matches the skin tone at the lower eyelid.

3. Yellow based concealers are usually best as they tend to blend dark undertones while concealing.

4. Use creamier concealers to hide dark circles and liquid on the delicate under-eye area and on dry skin.

5. Sticks are usually used for blemishes, scars and pimples.

Applying

1. Use camouflage on any remaining blemishes not covered by your foundation.

2. Dot a small amount of concealer on your fingertip, or a small brush and start stippling from the inner corner to the outside corner. Do not rub or stretch the fragile skin.

3. Cover all blemishes and spots and blend in gently.

4. On larger areas, such as the cheeks, a brush is used to apply the concealer in small outward, circles.

5. Do not apply more than two coats of concealer as more will look cakey
and mask-like.

6. Blend, blend and blend!

7. Blot gently with a tissue and apply your powder.

How To Apply Foundation

By using the right foundation you’re on your way to beautiful, flawless makeup.

There are a wide variety available, mainly liquids and creams.

Liquid foundation comes in bottles and gives a light coverage and is very easy to apply.

Cream foundation comes in tubes and sticks and is much thicker than liquids and cover blemishes easier.

Choosing

1. Start by choosing the right formula for your skin type as well as the matching shade to complement your natural skin color.

2. Choose a colour one shade lighter than your skin tone for the most natural look.

3. Try-on different colors in natural day light. Do not test foundation on your hand or arm.

4. Apply a little color onto your jawline and blend in lightly at the edges. Your correct shade will seem to disappear into your skin.

5. For oily skins use an oil-free liquid foundation. A creamy or stick foundation will be more appropriate for a dry to normal skin.

Applying

1. After cleansing and toning apply a light moisturizer, with a SPF of 15 or higher or follow up with a sunscreen. Allow a few minutes to sink in.

2. Apply your foundation sparingly with a, good quality, latex cosmetic sponge or foundation brush. Using your fingertips will result in an uneven finish.

3. Dampen the sponge before you begin to prevent it soaking up excess foundation.

4. Pour some foundation on the back of your hand. Scoop up with the sponge and apply in dots and dab all over the face.

5. Stroke the foundation onto the skin. Never drag the sponge or brush, as this simply removes the foundation.

6. Start in the centre of the face and work outwards and upwards to avoid
excess foundation at the hairline.

7. Use a patting, buffing or dotting motion to blend. The more you blend,
the more professional the finish will look.

8. If necessary cover blemishes by stippling extra foundation onto those areas. Remember the small areas like the creases of your nose and under your eyebrows.

9. Blend carefully along the lawline and around the ears.

10. Wrong!!

Incorrect shampooing techniques can cause a number of problems from excessive oil to a dry, flaky scalp.

The first step for great looking and feeling hair, will be to choose the right
shampoo for your hair type and to correctly shampoo your hair.

Wash your hair as often as you want. Shampoo will not damage your hair,
as long as you use the correct shampoo, one suitable for your particular hair
type. Shampoos are designed to keep our hair and scalp clean, fresh and healthy.

To frequent washing can, however, dry out the scalp. Experiment by washing every alternate or third day.

The How To:

Prepare

· always use a product formulated for your hair type

· brush your hair before shampooing to loosen tangles and dirt

· allow your hair to hang down naturally, either by standing upright or leaning over

· let your hair hang naturally while you wash it, either standing in the shower or with your head leaning over the bath

Shampoo

· do not use to much shampoo – less is best

· wet the hair thoroughly with lukewarm water – the shower is the best place to wash your hair

· loosen your hair with your fingers to help the water penetrate

· squeeze a small blob of shampoo on your hand and rub between your palms

· gently massage the shampoo with your fingertips into a lather

· start at your scalp and work through the length of your hair spreading the shampoo evenly

· use the pads of your fingers – never your nails

· don’t rub to vigorously or you might stretch and break your hair

· never rub braids or weaves – gently pat the shampoo in

Rinse

· rinse thoroughly with warm water, never hot or cold, removing all shampoo that may result in dry patches

· allow the water to run freely your hair, stroking it gently downwards with your fingers – be very careful not to stretch and break your hair

· let the water stream over braids and weaves without stroking or rubbing, until the water runs clear

Blot your hair lightly with a towel to remove excess water and your ready to apply conditioner!

Choosing The Right Products For Your Hair Type

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157932799738568642" style="FLOAT: left; Anything less will result in a unsightly spotty or flaky appearance.

By using a body scrub regularly to exfoliate, following with body lotion or cream, the dead cells on the surface will be removed - rewarding you with glowing, super-soft soft, smooth skin!

Removing dead cells will expose new plump cells, which absorbs moisturizers more easily and giving you a youthful, fresh look.

Your routine:

Normal skin: daily gentle exfoliating

Oily skin: exfoliate 4 to 5 times per week

Dry/sensitive skin: exfoliate 1 time per week

Combination skin: exfoliate 4 times per week

Cut down during winter months.

1. The easiest way is to exfoliate in the shower, but a bath will work just as well.

2. Start by massaging your body with oil before getting into the shower or bath.

2. Use a loofah, exfoliating gloves of a body exfoliating brush to lightly brush your dry skin before getting into the shower. Start at your feet and work your way up.

3. Apply exfoliating cleanser to the exfoliating tool of your choice. Use a facecloth for mild exfoliation and rub rough skin, such as elbows, knees and heels, with a pumice stone.

4. Wet your entire body and start scrubbing, using gentle, circular motions.

5. Use grainy exfoliating cleansers that contain ingredients such as pure sea salt, oatmeal, ground almonds, sugar, etc. Buy a special formulated exfoliating product for very dry and sensitive skin.

6. You can make your own exfoliating cleanser by mixing sea salt or sugar with olive oil and lemon juice, or mix ground almonds and powdered milk. Experiment with other grainy textures.

7. Take care not to over-exfoliate as you may harm the shallow, spidery veins just under the skin.

8. Rinse thoroughly with luke-warm water and pat dry.

9. Apply moisturizer liberally, as regular exfoliating is extremely drying and need to be followed by intensive moisturizing.

After an exfoliating session you will feel wonderfully invigourated and will love the feel of your silky, sexy skin!

Look out for follow-up posts on treats for your whole body.

Know your unique skin type

Knowing your skin type is the essential key to a skin-care routine as each skin type requires its own unique program of care. There is no point in spending a fortune on expensive skin-care products if you buy the wrong product for your skin type.

Skin types are usually identified by the degree of oiliness in the skin. The "T" Zone (forehead, nose and chin) is most often oily and the cheek areas dry and flaky.

To maintain and improve your skin’s texture, elasticity and sheen you must use products that suit your particular skin type.

Even though you have identified your skin type, your skin may change time to time and from season to season. Hormones, your diet and the environment also play a major role in the changes in your skin.

It is vital to determine where and how soon the oil or dry feeling returns to the skin after cleansing your face. Check regularly and adjust your skin-care products to suit its new condition.

The four main skin types are: oily, normal, dry and sensitive. Keep in mind that most people have a combination of two (or even more) of these skin types.

A rough Guide:

Normal skin:

Fine skin texture with smallpores.

Skin tends to be tight and tingling after cleansing.

Some oiliness in the T-zone.

Seldom burns in the sun.

Dry skin:

Fine skin texture with small pores.

No oily areas.

Tend to be itchy and flaky.

Fine lines and pre-mature wrinkles.

Readily burns in the sun.

Oily skin:

Enlarged pores.

Tend to break out with acne and blackheads.

Feels oily when touched.

Problem with a oily sheen.

Skin feels soft and supple.

Low risk of sunburn and tans easily.

Minimum of lines and wrinkles.

Sensitive skin:

Smallish pore size.

No real problem with oiliness.

Skin tends to break out in rashes when irritated.

The skin condition is usually red, flaky and itchy.

No real problem with wrinkling.

A quick quiz to determine your skin type:
Start by answering the following questions. Cleansing is the most important step in your skincare routine.

Select the cleanser suited for your skin type. Cleaners are available as creams, milks, lotions, makeup removers and wash-off cleaners. They also come in a wide rage for all skin types such as oily skin, dry skins, skins with allergies etc.

Use the cleanser as prescribed by the manufacturer to gently clean your face and neck, removing all traces of make-up, impurities and dead skin. Never pull or stretch your skin!

2. Follow this up with an appropriate toner or mild astringent. This will tighten pores and improve blood circulation, leaving your skin tingling clean. Avoid those that are alcohol-based as they tend to excessively dry the skin.

3. Lastly apply a light moisturizer with at least a SPF 15 protection for
daytime and if you have a very dry skin, a richer night cream at bedtime.
Always apply moisturizer to a squeaky clean skin!

This is then your 3 easy steps to basic skin care, but the best skincare routine should begin on the inside.

A well-balanced diet, additional supplements, sufficient water intake and exercises will go a long way in ensuring a beautiful skin – I will write more about it in a later post.
